Night Of The Dead

Reservation

When the night of November 1st arrives, every year, it is believed that the souls of our loved ones return to share with us, only one night of the year where both worlds come together. The festivity in Michoacán is particular because of its vigil in the cemeteries, where it is dressed in the orange color of the cempasúchil (Marigolds), the yellow of the candle light and the white smoke of the copal. On our tour we will visit Purépecha indigenous communities that keep alive the traditions, the culture, the living expression of their people, starting with Santa Fe de la Laguna and its "Dead of the Year" remembering with altars in their home the last soul in this year. We continue to Arócutin village on the shores of Lake Patzcuaro where the cemetery is still inside the town´s atrium, here we will have a time to walk around the cemetery, dinner and taste the delicious dishes of the region. We continue our journey to the pier of Ucasanástacua where we will board a boat to reach the Pacanda Island, where the midnight bells announce the moment to go to the cemetery and adorn the tombs. On our return from the island we will visit a last cemetery, the one of Tzurumútaro, with its tombs dressed in beautiful colors.
